Our August 18, 2019 Speaker will be Debbie Lewis,
"Library resources: So much more than books"
Originally from Miami, FL, Debbie came to Gainesville to attend college, and never left. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Entomology from the University of Florida, and a Master of Science in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University. After staying at home to raise her two children (which included spending lots of time in the Public Library), Debbie could see no more apt career than that of librarian, where she could have the same kind of impact on other children that library staff had had on hers. That career spanned 15 years with the Alachua County Library District, 10 as a children's librarian, and five in Acquisitions.
Since retirement, Debbie spends a not inconsiderable amount of time helping with the efforts to make America sane again through work with local politics and activist groups. She has maintained her connection with the library through volunteering, and she spends her spare time with her two adorable grandchildren, and her happy ending, Joey.
